Rare Footage Of John Lee Hooker on 1970 TV Show

This is a real find. John Lee Hooker on great form – from around 1970.

Tube Works was  a music TV show in Detroit and was on an early version of analog cable TV.

The Detroit alt-weekly Metro Times dug up some incredible and rare footage from Tube Works of Hooker from probably sometime in 1970. The video is somewhat degraded, but the sound is terrific. The Metro Times post said: “This video features two of Hooker’s own kids plus legendary percussionist Muruga Booker. It was shot in the studio in 1970 for the local Tube Works show. Make sure you turn your device up loud before you hit play on this thing. Hooker was tuned in to a cosmic frequency of electric boogie drone, after all”.
