A few years back, a film, purporting to contain silent footage of the great Mississippi bluesman Robert Johnson began circulating among blues fans. A number of blues fans got excited and some were “taken in” by the film – just as some where when a photograph of “Johnson” with fellow Mississippi bluesman Johnny Shines began circulating more recently.
Rumours spread that a number of rock stars were interested in purchasing the film. Robert Plant and Jimmy Page were supposed to be among those interested.
The YouTube clip featuring blues authorities Robert Santelli and Steve LaVere was filmed in 2009 and proves that the film is not of Johnson. The reasons are simple: the film was shot in 1942 and Johnson was already dead – and Robert Junior Lockwood, Johnson’s step son said it wasn’t him!
An interesting clip nonetheless…..
